James Terry


James Terry - Chief Operating Officer, Armstrong Group.

James Terry joined the Armstrong Group in 1995 and has been the Chief Operating Officer since 1999. The Armstrong Group owns and operates the Rocky Mountaineer, Whistler Mountaineer, Gray Line West in Victoria and the Thompson Hotel in Kamloops. James is responsible for the overall operations of all divisions of the company.

In his current position, James oversees an organization comprised of over 500 employees and contracted staff in British Columbia and Alberta. James had over 25 years of hotel and restaurant management experience in his native England as well as in Australia and Canada before joining the Armstrong Group.

Active in his community, James is a past director of the Vancouver Hotel Association and enjoyed four years as chair of fundraising for the BC Children’s Hospital representing the Tourism and Hospitality sectors. He is a former Board Member of TIAC and has sat on many committees including the BC Competition Council Tourism Industry Advisory Committee, the Capital Campaign Steering Committee for the Vancouver Community College and the North Vancouver Tourism Advisory Committee. He is currently Vice Chair on the Board of Tourism Vancouver, scheduled to be the Chair in 2010-2011.
