Deborah Wickins, BA, MBA
Deborah Wickins received her MBA from the University of Victoria, where her area of concentration was Tourism. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Language and Literature from the University of Alberta.
Deborah has been part of Royal Roads University since 1998. Deborah spent five years as Executive Director of RRU’s MBA Program, designing, launching and delivering the program to all cohorts between 1999 and 2003. After taking time away from RRU to launch her consulting practice, she then returned in 2005-2007 to develop and launch the BA and MA programs in International Hotel Management. Deborah has taught in the BCom, BAIHM and MBA programs, and serves as an academic Advisor on MBA OCP projects. Deborah is currently the Director, MBA Programs, for the University of Victoria.
During her time at RRU, Deborah had the opportunity to develop and deliver MBA programming in Grenoble, France, and in Tehran, Iran. She also designed the inaugural MA in International Hotel Management residency that was delivered in Dubai, UAE in 2007. She has traveled to more than a dozen countries in four continents and relishes any opportunities to experience new cultures.
Deborah has published case studies and journal articles in the field of tourism management and recently did a comprehensive rewrite of a business strategy text to relate it specifically to the tourism sector.
Deborah is on the Board of Directors for Pacific Opera Victoria. In her spare time, she is passionate about music, travel, languages, reading, and wine. She is currently studying in her final level of part-time studies to attain certification as a Sommelier through the International Sommelier Guild.
